Spot color

Here is how it works:
1. Decide what kind of paper stock you will use, because paper makes a huge difference in ink color. For example, Pantone makes swatch books for three main kinds of paper stock: C for Coated paper, U for Uncoated paper and M for Matte paper.
2. Select the swatch or swatches you need from the appropriate swatch book—not the color you see on your monitor or print on your desktop printer, since those colors may not be accurate.
3. Use the Photoshop Color Picker to locate your job color(s) from one of the color matching systems:
a. Click the Color Libraries button. (It was called the Custom button in previous versions of Photoshop.)
b. Choose the custom color system from the Book popup menu shown to the right.
c. Either type in the swatch book number (if you know it) or use the color spectrum to locate colors in the range you seek.
d. Click the swatch you desire to select it, and click OK.
Once you pick a predefined color, do not rename or edit it, if you plan to print it as a spot color.
